Student mural in Torbay

STUDENT, Lily Wilkinson, has painted a unique masterpiece which is cheering up young patients in Torbay Hospital's children's ward. Wilkinson, who is in her final year of studying for an International Baccalaureate at Torquay Boys Grammar School, decided to create a mural as part of the creativity, action and service section of her qualification. And, after visiting a friend in Louisa Cary ward, she opted to donate the mural so others could benefit from her work. The mural took a total of 50 hours to complete over a three-month period and was put together on the weekends and in the evenings. She also had a helping hand from her friend and fellow student, Barcley Spicer-Jenkins, to help complete it within the given timeframe. She said: "Not only has this been an important part of my studies, but I am pleased to have had the opportunity to use my art to bring pleasure to those people who may need cheering up. I have always had a passion for art and I feel very proud to see my final piece on the wall. I hope that all the children and staff will enjoy it." Sandy Discombe, ward manager, added: "It is absolutely brilliant and has truly brightened the ward up. I know that all the children, visitors and staff will all be able to enjoy this great piece of art for many years to come."
